The Kirks Photo Album FAQ

Angel: Angels are the (usually) unseen beings who guide, guard, and help us along our journey through life. Evidence of their presence is all around us if we will only open our hearts and see. In a moment of calm you may hear your angel´s voice, quiet as a whisper or feel the gentle caress of her feathery wings.

Aurora Borealis: A magical stone for dreaming upon. We use it in most of our pieces because it captures a rainbow of dancing light.

"Dream and Believe": Our guiding philosophy. If you can dream it and believe in your dream, you can make your dream come true!

Fairy or Faery: Fairies are playful nature spirits who perform many tasks for Mother Nature. They help seeds germinate, teach bumblebees to buzz, and add scent to flowers. They live in gardens, in ancient trees (especially willows and oaks), and in the deep mossy banks along streams. Their variety is endless, although the most well known are flower fairies, wishing fairies, and celestial fairies. Only those of us who honor all living things will ever have a chance to see the fairies. Sightings usually occur in the garden at dawn or at dusk. Thatís because the wee folk who live there love to frolic and play at those times, and in their merriment, often let their guard down. Young children often see fairies, but most adults have lost the ability (because they refuse to believe) and often mistake butterflies for fairies. Fairies like to ride on dragonflies and dance from petal to petal throughout the day. At night they tuck their heads and curl up beneath a leaf to sleep.

Fairy Godmother: One of the Royalty of Fairyland along with the Queen of the Fairies. A Fairy Godmother works out of love and devotes herself to helping others learn to believe in the magic that is always available to them. Whenever you dream of your heart´s desire, your very own Fairy godmother is nearby encouraging you, waving her magic wand and whispering "May all your dreams come true."

Fairy Tea Party: There is nothing so gracious and charming as a fairy tea party in the garden. When the sundial shows 3 o´clock, that magical time when the sun is heading homeward and the garden is getting droopy, the fairies gather for tea. They feast on all manner of fairy food and drink as they linger among the beauty of the flowers before forming their fairy ring for their twilight dance in the garden.

Fairy Tree: An ancient tree, almost always gnarled and bumpy, with large roots and hollow branches. Fairy trees are enchanted and are home to many nature spirits, which is why they should never be cut down. If you think you see a Fairy Tree, put a bit of honey or a cookie crumb at the base for the wee folk who live there. They will often reciprocate so be sure to keep your eyes open for an especially beautiful feather, stone or shell which will be left nearby.

Follydust: Just as water and air are essential to the earthly world, so is Follydust vital to the world of fantasy. This ephemeral mixture is highly prized by the fairies who employ it to work their magic. The exact ingredients in this powerful potpourri were kept a closely guarded secret of the fairies throughout the centuries. We were given the recipe by an elderly fairy lady who runs an apothecary shop from the gnarled roots of an ancient oak tree in the Enchanted Forest. She felt the human world needed the glimmer of light that only Follydust can give - so she provided us with the ingredients and her blessing so that you may be touched by the magic of Follydust.

Foreverland: The tropical island which is the homeland of all the magical Kirks Folly creatures. Foreverland is a vast kingdom, ruled by the Fairy Godmother. Its regions include the Enchanted Forest and the Enchanted Garden. It is a place where childhood dreams come to life. To share in the joy of Foreverland you must close your eyes and open your heart and see with the faith of a child. You don´t need a map to find Foreverland - just look to the stars and follow your intuition.

Magic Wand: A hollow staff used for the express purpose of carrying and sprinkling follydust. A magic wand, when not in use, should be wrapped in silk and put in a safe place, because Follydust is a powerful mixture is used only to implement wishes.

Pixie: The tiniest of sprites, pixies are known to be the most fun loving of fairies. If you aren´t kind to Mother Nature, they can make you lose your keys or forget your shopping list. (Ever wonder where the word "pixilated came from? Now you know!) Pixies live in flower gardens or in palaces nestled among the clouds. When you make a wish, the pixies can work in your behalf to make your dream come true. When you see the Aurora Borealis glow of a wishing ball or see the sparkle of Follydust flying, know that pixies are within arms´ reach!
